Overview

Loopa is a smart money management app designed to help people automatically organize finances, eliminate wasteful spending, and build healthier financial habits — without needing to be a financial expert.

With features like auto-adjusting budgets, subscription tracking, and real-time fraud alerts, it was designed to feel like having a mini-CFO in your pocket!

Core Challenge - All-in-one Banking and Budgeting Mobile App

Most finance apps only track money after it’s gone — users are still left confused about how to budget, where they’re losing money, and what to do next.
Users felt overwhelmed by:

  • Hidden fees,

  • Forgotten subscriptions,

  • Sudden overdrafts,

  • And rigid budgeting apps with no real guidance.

Features

  1. Transparent Fee Tracking

- Send and receive money locally and internationally

  2. Auto-adjust budgets monthly.

  3. Predict cash shortages and recommend actionable steps

  4. Pay Bills and manage subscriptions

  5. Biometric login.

  6. Fraud alert system & Instant card freezing

  7. Insights of cash inflow and out flow

Increase daily app engagement

Smart money insights & confetti microinteractions after completing goals

Retain users by reducing churn

Personalized alerts, fraud protection, card control = trust

Increase Users' Trust

Flexible features like smart freeze & auto-budget insights to give users total control over their finances

Research & Findings

To validate pain points, I conducted:

  • 12 interviews with Gen Z and Millennial users,

  • A competitor teardown of apps like piggyvest, moniepoint etc

  • Survey on budgeting habits.

Key Findings:

  • 73% said they didn’t understand where half their money went each month.

  • 61% said they had multiple forgotten subscriptions.

  • 86% wanted all in one app that gave actionable steps not just financial reports

  • Over 40% were hit by surprise charges due to lack of real-time fraud alerts or overspending.

What I learned

I Got to learn the importance of visual design and visual hierarchy and how it makes the users more engaging.

Key takeaways;

  • Financial design should balance clarity with emotional safety — numbers alone don’t reduce financial anxiety.

  • Microinteractions and predictive insights, even simple ones, massively boost trust and user action.

  • Many “passive” fintech users can become active once they feel guided, not judged.
